Kashmir, Pakistan and India

Every morning, I take up newspaper to read, I happen to see some news related to Kashmir. With Mr Imran Khan becoming a PM, I thought probably we might start a dialogue for peaceful coexistence. He had offered talks as he took over prime ministership last month. Ministers of both countries were to meet at UN in New York. However, killing of Indian soldiers has provoked India to cancel that meeting. India accuses Pakistan for promoting cross-border terrorism and has successfully mobilised the world opinion in its favour, sometime succeeding in mentioning Pakistan as the state actor in sponsoring terrorism.
Today (23rd Sep, 2018)'s news of cancellation of ministerial meeting in NY was interpreted by Pakistan as India's arrogance that is aimed at vote bank politics in view of coming elections to the Parliament. What I felt bad is the reported remarks of PM Imran Khan that "small men occupying big offices do not have vision to see the larger picture". Obviously, these remarks are in bad taste and most probably directed towards our Prime Minister. I hope Mr Imran Khan should have been careful in using this language, because such remarks are personal. Narendra Modi is no nonsense Prime Minister who will take these remarks lightly. He may not react nor respond. But his actions will speak louder. Kashmir is an issue for political survival of even prime ministers in Pakistan. So is it for some in India's Kashmir. But it is not for our Prime minister and prime ministrial aspirants. And hence, the General public will hardly bother about even failure of the Indian politicians on management of Kashmir. And at the same time, no politician will give leeway to accept its succession.
Imran Khan has only few days of experience of international diplomacy and hence, it is best that he takes a bit mature, tolerant and comprehensive approach to resolve Indo-Pak relations. It is not going to be quick, but a time taking and time testing to arrive at resolving the problems.
